7 Tips for Using Social Bookmarking For SEO Effectively

Social Bookmarking For SEO Effectively

Social Bookmarking is one of the oldest off page SEO techniques in our books. Well just like any other strategy, there are ways to use Social bookmarking sites as well, and there are ways to use it “efficiently”.

If you just use it, you’ll get results, while using it efficiently will get you impressive results. That’s what this piece is all about, we will get a deeper look into Audience Engagement On Social Media Tips for Using Social Bookmarking  for SEO Effectively.

But before that let’s start from the basics 🙂

What is Social Bookmarking?

Social Bookmarking is the same as normal web-page bookmarking, think of it as the “cloud version” of bookmarking.

When you bookmark webpages on your browser, it’s normal bookmarking, but when you do the same over an Internet webpage, it’s social bookmarking.

It originally wasn’t developed as a Back Linking” or “SEO Strategy” . Instead it was just a better way for people to store the links they like so that they can access it later.

It’s like the Yellow pages of links, but with time people came to know that “backlinks” are one of the most important SEO factors, and bookmarking sites gets you backlinks.

So from “listing links”, it became a “SEO” technique. People started listing sites not because they wanted to store it, but simply because they wanted to have a link from that web-page to their websites to boost their rankings.

Benefits of Social Bookmarking:-

Now you know what Social Bookmarking is, but why is it important? It’s common knowledge they’ll get you backlinks, but what kind of backlinks, why are they special?

Direct Traffic:- People visit social bookmarking sites for a number of reasons, one of them obviously is bookmarking their own websites, the other is to checkout other web pages. So that’s some direct traffic you’re looking at.

Do-follow links:- Most social bookmarking sites from the beginning of days have offered do-follow backlinks, it’s one of the many reasons why they’re so popular.

Easy links:- Even if the links are no-follow on some social bookmarking sites, what matters is that you get those links easily, there’s no mailing, guest posting or hassle. You just have to signup (which might be optional in some cases) and list your links.

Search Engine bots crawl social bookmarking sites frequently as well, meaning your links would get listed as soon as a bot crawls it.

Using Social Bookmarking for SEO Effectively?

So social bookmarking is helpful, let’s make it “profitable”. Because linking done wrong can hurt your projects pretty bad considering it’s 2017 already and Google is coming up with some nasty updates this year as well!

Diversify Anchor Text:-

The one mistake almost everyone makes while making any kind of links is using the same anchor text over and over again. Well it might have worked half a decade back, these days? Not so much.

Anchor text diversification is one of the basic(est) and most important steps you can take while building links for your website. Here’s a live example demonstrating what I mean:-

  • Primary Kw:- Best Android App.
  • 1st Anchor text:- Best Android App.
  • 2nd Anchor text:- Brandable Links. (Website name).
  • 3rd Anchor Text:- Awesome android apps.
  • 4th Anchor Text:- Read more.

And so on.

Go Slow:-

When you first land on a Social Bookmarking site, you feel like you’ve hit the jackpot. A platform where you can lay off as many links as you like and there’s no one to stop you.

Well there is, and the devil goes by the name of Google. It won’t stop you from building links, it just has its own ways of showing dissatisfaction.

So my suggestion is, go slow. Do not make more than 2 links/day for one website from one Social Bookmarking site on a maximum.

Do Follow Links:-

This one goes without saying, if you’re trying to pass some link juice, I’ll take a do-follow over a no-follow any day of the year. That’s exactly what you’ve got to do while bookmarking your site.

Try to use sites which offer do-follow links, but also make sure that you aren’t purely going after do-follows and neglecting the no-follows, because well this counts as link diversity as well.

Same Description and Profile Data:-

Many a times, when building a profile or writing a description, you tend to copy paste the same data over and over again. And you’re like, Google won’t read the whole article, just the anchor texts”. Well that’s so wrong, Google does pay attention to the surrounding keywords of any anchor text as well.

So using the same data over and over clearly sends a duplicate flag which isn’t exactly healthy for your links. So try to use as much fresh data as possible with each link.

Although fresh data doesn’t mean “changing your registered name”, if you’re making links as Mr. X, you can keep using the same name over and over again, it actually works towards building authority.

Be Legit:-

When you create an account on a Social bookmarking site, most of the times you just signup, put your links and never go back again. Well, the general idea should be to build a “Real profile” there, make it look like you aren’t there for the links but for really using the platform.

Try to interact with other bookmarks, pages, and people on the platform (if they’ve such a community), do not insert links every single day and so on.

Be Specific:-

Most Social bookmarking sites allow you to choose category for your bookmarks when you’re building them. The best thing you can do is, choose a category as specific and narrow to your website as possible.

It’s not exactly a SEO factor, but it still counts. And anyway, all those other categories which might seem like having millions of traffic will be over-crowded anyway.

Don’t be a Script Kiddie:-

On Fiverr, you can easily find I’ll build 10000 social bookmarks for you for $5″ gigs. Well, don’t go for them. Neither should you go for those easily available, cheap automated link building tools.

In fact, you shouldn’t go for any tool doesn’t matter how premium it is for link building. Not for social bookmarking, not for web 2.0s basically not for any type of link building.

Do it manually and your website would thank you forever.

Questions to Consider before Hiring an SEO Professional

Hiring SEO Professional

If you own a company or want to expand your small business (or just to attract traffic to your blog), you probably already know the importance of internet advertising. However, the point of being in the online world is not just to be present, but to be visible and available to those who will bring you some profit or results, i.e., Internet users.

To achieve this, you need to apply the right SEO strategy, which primarily refers to users, but also follows the rules of Internet browsers. Since these algorithms often change and the field of online business is very turbulent, you have to ask yourself – can you do this on your own (do you have the required knowledge, resources, etc.) or do you still need the help of an expert?

Before making a final decision, it would be a good idea to analyze several key points.

Define Your Goal and Be Real

The goal that you want to achieve using SEO strategies is to promote your website, brand, blog, etc. You need measurable results or statistics that indicate the success of your business on the Internet. Clear objectives are the basis for achieving good results.

You have to have realistic expectations. If you are planning to “dive” into Internet marketing, don’t expect results overnight. Neither the local SEO expert you hired can make this feasible that fast. They may have what it takes to help you find your place on search engines, but they are not all-mighty.

If you are not sure how to start, consult the SEO agency. You tell them what you want, and they will “translate” that in numbers. For example, you want to increase your site’s traffic by 30% in the next month. A reliable SEO company will suggest what they can do to achieve your goals, like which strategy they could use and similar. Now it’s up to you to consider how this fits into your financial plans.

The Expertise vs. Staying In-House

Even if you have knowledge in the field of SEO, you need detailed planning of all activities on a daily, weekly or monthly level. To ensure visibility, you must be up-to-date, place new content, guest and social network posts, regularly update links, etc. Since this is just a tiny part of a good SEO plan, you must consider all the benefits and limitations before making a decision whether to hire an SEO expert or not.

If your team has a person who can deal with this, or you have time to devote yourself to SEO activities of your business, that’s great. However, if you are aware of the limitations of your business, which will “require” the engagement of additional SEO workforce or the outsourcing services of an agency, don’t be afraid of it.

The Evidence of Expertise

There is no best SEO expert in the world. Simply, the best are all those who are ready to learn, to improve, to follow the turbulent situation in the world of digital marketing and to perceive changes in the market. Feel free to ask for samples of their previous work.

Everyone can tell you that they are experts in something when you see them for the first time. But can they give you firm evidence of their expertise? Someone may believe in the words, but deeds are the ones that usually prove someone’s knowledge and experience.

On this webpage, check what other qualities an SEO expert should have and what you should look for before hiring them: https://medium.com/@DavidB_L/top-9-qualities-to-look-for-in-an-seo-expert-d8e7fb4f661e.

Two-Way Communication

An SEO expert must listen to you, that is, to work according to your wishes and requirements. When you expose your ideas and intentions, they have to make it SEO feasible. Don’t fall for promises that your goal will be fulfilled in the shortest possible time. Ask for a detailed explanation of all the procedures, and realistic deadlines.

Communication must always be a two-way street – you are hiring a professional to make your ideas come true. You are the boss, but an SEO expert is here to give you point you the right way. Also, they should regularly report on the results, activities, and changes that occur. When the results are positive, they have to make an arrangement with you how to make them even better. When they’re not that good, you should work together on changing SEO strategy and adapting it to the market requirements.

If you or your company has high-quality content, product, or service to offer to the market, you must find a way to reach clients. A great SEO strategy can help you a lot in the online world and find you the way to the target audience.

Certainly, hiring professionals in that field is the best option, because the funds invested can quickly be multiplied. If the engagement of experts or agency is not possible, you can use your own workforce in the SEO field.

With SEO, you will always get trackable and quantifiable results regardless of the nature of your site (e-commerce or non-e-commerce), and this makes it very efficient as far as ROI is concerned. With that said, SEO agencies can track almost all the aspects of their strategy including an increase in traffic, and conversions among others.

For e-commerce sites, SEO agencies can easily determine a variety of activities ranging from the paths users take to complete a sale as well as minor details such the keyword used to search for your site before making the purchase.

5. Brand Awareness

Ranking in the top positions on the search engines exposes your website to a majority of users. Besides, appearing on the first page for your targeted keyword not only associates your brand with those keywords but also instills more trust into your brand. Generally, any company showing up on the first page of the search engines is often viewed as more trustworthy.
